FRASI.BIZ – PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) efforts to introduce a commitment to good mining practices to the public continue. This time, PT Vale is targeting the Generation Z from the academic community, particularly students at Hasanuddin University.
During the Sharing Knowledge event held by PT Vale in collaboration with Hasanuddin University at Baruga AP Pettarani, Unhas on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, PT Vale’s management introduced how the principles of good mining are applied.
Gustaf Ganna Songgo, Head of People and Culture at PT Vale Indonesia, explained the three company taglines that demonstrate their concern for the future, the environment, and safety in the workplace. These taglines include “safety yes production yes,” “save nature save future,” and “no health no life.”
In his presentation, Director of Operational Planning and Geotechnical, Obes Silalahi, provided examples of the implementation of good mining practices. For instance, the reclaimed mining land area as of September 2023 reached 138.23 hectares (Ha), bringing the total reclaimed mining land to 3,635 Ha.
“Not only reclamation, but we also engage in rehabilitating Watersheds (DAS) by planting trees outside the contract area. This is aimed at restoring, maintaining, and enhancing the DAS’s function for carbon absorption,” he explained.
One of the participants, Chassya Jolensia, an alumna of the Economics Department at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Hasanuddin University, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating that it provided her with a deeper understanding of environmentally friendly mining.
“As an alumna of the Economics Department, we learn about the green economy. I’m impressed by how Vale rehabilitates former mining lands and has already put this green economy into practice,” she said, expressing her desire to join PT Vale.
