Thousands of Enthusiastic Participants Attend PT Vale’s Sharing Knowledge Event at Unhas Campus
FRASI.BIZ – A total of 1,450 students and alumni from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) enthusiastically participated in the Sharing Knowledge program organized by PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) at the Baruga Andi Pangerang Pettarani, Hasanuddin University, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
The event, themed “Learning Together, Transforming Together,” provided an opportunity for young talents to get to know PT Vale better. During the event, students received information on how to join and work at PT Vale.
Present at the event were Gustaf Ganna Songgo, Head of People and Culture at PT Vale Indonesia, Obes Silalahi, Senior Manager of Operational Planning and Geotechnical, Ragil Savitry, Manager of Talent Management at PT Vale, and Suryono Hadi, Manager of Human Resources Project and Recruitment. On the UNHAS side, it was attended by Prof. Dr.Eng. Adi Maulana, Vice Rector IV for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business, and Prof. Dr.Eng. Andi Erwin Eka Putra, Head of the Battery and Advanced Materials Center at UNHAS.
Gustaf explained that after 55 years of operation in Sorowako, East Luwu, PT Vale continues to provide job opportunities for young talents who are passionate about the mining industry and care about the future.
“In the last two years, we have initiated expansion in two operational areas, Morowali and Kolaka, with a planned investment of over USD 8 billion with our partners. The goal is not only to develop the business but also to prioritize sustainable mining in this growth project. One of our taglines is ‘save nature, save the future.’ It is impossible to create a better future without caring for the environment we are in now,” said Gustaf.
Gustaf explained that currently, there are approximately 9,000 people working at Vale in the Sorowako Block area and various PT Vale business units, including both contractor employees and 3,000 permanent PT Vale employees.
When the two new mining blocks of PT Vale in Morowali and Kolaka, and Sorowako Limonite, become operational, the production capacity will increase from approximately 75,000 tons to around 330,000 tons per year.
“When the production capacity reaches 330,000 tons per year, it will be necessary to find and recruit additional young talents to join us. We believe that young talents from UNHAS and other universities in Indonesia can help build PT Vale Indonesia and our country, Indonesia,” Gustaf added.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana ST M.Phil, Vice Rector IV of Hasanuddin University, expressed his utmost appreciation to Vale for the cooperation in the knowledge-sharing event.
He mentioned that UNHAS had been collaborating with PT Vale since the company was known as INCO.
“The collaboration has existed for a long time, but it was interrupted about 10 years ago. Now, because there is a good opportunity, it has been reinitiated. PT Vale is a large company located in South Sulawesi, so the opportunity for cooperation is significant,” he stated.
Therefore, UNHAS’s leadership has established an MoU with Vale, one of which includes organizing co-op programs that allow students to gain work experience for a certain period.
According to him, UNHAS shares the same goals with PT Vale regarding sustainability principles. “UNHAS is now the second campus to implement SDGs. Last week, according to Bappenas, we were the second. This week, we are being assessed, and we are in the top three,” he said.
On the other hand, Akbar, a student of Engineering at UNHAS, mentioned that he gained a lot of new knowledge about how to apply for jobs in the professional world after attending PT Vale’s Sharing Knowledge event. He also got to know more about PT Vale’s governance, which he had only followed on their social media.
“I finally gained knowledge about how PT Vale recruits employees, and what’s interesting is that we received opinions from people who are already working there, and they were willing to share their job application experiences,” he explained.
Vale Recruits 25% Female Employees
In addition to topics like sustainability, company culture, and Diversity Equity and Inclusion, students also paid close attention to the explanations from Ragil Savitry, Manager of Talent Management at PT Vale, and Suryono Hadi, Manager of HR Project & Recruitment at PT Vale.
Some key points emphasized were the importance of candidates completing their personal and achievement data on social media, particularly LinkedIn. Job applicants were also encouraged to be creative in filling out their CV forms when applying. For example, if they have experience working for a company or organization, they should also include details about projects they successfully completed during their employment.
Suryo also highlighted the importance of female participation at PT Vale. “In the last 9 months, about 25% of the employees we recruited were women.”
Finally, he reminded everyone to beware of fake job postings and to ensure that job vacancies from Vale are genuine and legitimate by checking the official Vale.com website.
